There were a few interesting things that happened in these chapters, but for the most part, they were just
setup/exposition chapters. So far, I have concluded that Robert Jordan meant to make the Wheel of Time series so that
each book was a stand-alone story. Because of this, he explains and re-explains the same things over and over again.
While this might be useful if someone tried to read a single book of the series, it turns many of the chapters into
exposition instead of action, lengthening the books and breaking their flow.

Great chapters - thanks to MG for trading me, and additionally for setting himself up so perfectly
About half of this post had to be cut because I realized it was full of spoilers. I'll save it for later. Chapter 13 was previously accidentally left out of my post; it has now been appended. After dragging his feet a bit with the first two novels, Robert Jordan really seems to have a grasp on where he wants to
go as we start the third book in the saga. Chapter summaries...you know the drill.

Sorry this is late, been trying to run a campaign for office in the UCRP. Chapters summarized below the fold, but
general tone: Jordan was still thinking he'd wrap this up in three books. In some ways, I'm glad he failed.

I think I enjoy this book a little more. Maybe because I didn't bother to read all the stuff about Selene. Plus things
seem to make a bit more sense, this time around. But I still don't like this book that much. Continued in-attempts to
make sure spelling is correct. Chapters and summary below the fold.

A lot of things happen in these next chapters, but the events seem to be beginnings, not endings, and the number of
beginnings without endings is growing rapidly. It would be really nice to see some threads wrapped up instead of started
up.
See below the fold for summaries. Continue reading "The Great Hunt (30 -35" Monday, April 1. 2013Comment (1) Trackbacks (0) The Great Hunt (Chapters 24-29)
To be honest, I had to read these chapters a week in advance, but I didn’t get a chance to write up my thoughts fresh
from completing them. Summaries and commentary below the fold.

I really enjoy these chapters because they start to humanize the Aes Sedai a little bit - we can start to understand the
environmental factors that lead to them behaving the way they do. Chapter specific thoughts below the fold.

Overall, I felt that this was a solid assignment. We get to learn a bit more about several characters besides Rand,
along with doing a little more world building. Summaries and further thoughts below the fold.

I must begin by saying that I did not enjoy this book on first read through. So I am hoping that a second go round will
improve matters. I am almost late in posting this so please forgive the hastiness of some of my writing. Continued
in-attempts to make sure spelling is correct. I typed too much. Chapters and summary below the fold.

I hate our blog. Twice now it has eaten posts > 2k words on this topic. I'm not doing it again - not tonight. I like
book one; I wish Harriet hadn't edited the series; I wish James Rigney and Peter Jackson had known each other. Fin.

The Great Hunt starts with a good hook. I think that its prologue is one of the strongest pieces of writing in the
series so far. After that, though, the pace slows down quite a bit, and for the most part, these chapters seem to be
building up a new set of characters as pieces for Robert Jordan to move around his world.

I have to be honest that this is as good an ending to this book as I think we can expect. Tons of areas are only hinted
at and some just left unexplained all together. This is probably more of an indictment of me as a reader than the
author but I was too confused. And I don't care that much about the characters. Way to many flaws. Not nearly enough
positive areas. You will notice a pattern that the wheel seems to weave with me and the end of this book: Confusion.
Summary and thoughts below the fold.
Also, I still am not bothering to do any spell checking on names/places. Continue reading "The Eye of the World (Chapters 49-53)" Monday, February 18. 2013Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Eye of the World Chapters 43-48
I really enjoyed these chapters. There was a lot of good stuff packed in here. Some good revelations and thrilling
action. I think I’ve probably said this too much, but I’m really enjoying this re-read. I definitely did not start
reading this book in the same frame of mind as I’m finishing it. Chapter summaries and my further thoughts below the
fold.
