Monday, September 30. 2013The Fires of Heaven (Prologue - Chapter 4)
Jordan stays true to form. After a whirlwind finish to the previous book, he settles into his deliberate pace, and begins setting up the story for this book. The chapters were fun, if a bit slow moving. Summaries below the fold.
Elaida works to solidify her base of power, but she is constantly undermined by Alviarin. Rahvin, in his guise as Gaebril, makes sure that his presence does not come to the attention of the White Tower by placing Compulsion on their spy. Four of the Forsaken meet to discuss an alliance, but the discussion does not pass beyond vague threats and allusions.
Min, Leane, Logain and Siuan are caught sleeping in a barn, and in the scuffle Logain escapes and the barn is burned down. The women are sentenced to serve the local lord, Gareth Bryne, until they have paid restitution for their crimes. They swear to serve him, but run away at the first opportunity, rejoining Logain in the process. Rand begins his preparations for taking the Aiel out of the Threefold land while Mat gets himself a girlfriend. Trackbacks

So, given the information that Asmodean has provided, I think we all need an update on where the 13 forsaken are. They are slippery fellows and are always so hard to keep track of.
Aginor- Was burned to oily ashes by- himself! Foolish, you would think one of the Forsaken would be able to tell when he was drawing too much. But then again, I periodically overeat so… Asmodean- Currently finds himself conveniently leaning against his dark brethren, and sistren I suppose, now that he is all trapped and stuff. He is starting to give some hints on training to Rand, but the question is can he be trusted to train him right? This reminds me of the movie Kung-Pow when they purposefully train Wimp-Lo wrong “as a joke”. Balthamel- Caught the wrong end of the Green Man’s usually hospitable nature and ended up rotting to death. You know, like you do… Be’lal- Received a lethal dose of balefire from the ever beautiful Moirane. (I imagine Kate Beckinsale. Hmmmm... Kate Beckinsale) Demandred- No idea where this guy is, but we do know that he is kind of a Grumpy Gus. Plus not only does envy make you green but it also makes you start worshiping the Dark One. Graendal-No definitive location known yet, but she does have quite the collection of handsome young men (well, we know where I would be…) and was in Arad Doman “for a time”. Vague much, Asmodean? Ishamael- Found himself dying at the end of the sword that is not a sword acting very sword like. (i.e. Rand stabbed him with Callandor.) Lanfear- Being kind of sketchy and stalker-esque. Doesn’t really seem to have any base of operations but is really helping Rand out due to her undying love for him. Let’s all remember Barney’s Hot/Crazy Scale. http://how-i-met-your-mother.wikia.com/wiki/Hot/Crazy_Scale) Mesaana- Probably the most forgettable of the Forsaken. We really don’t know anything about her yet. Nor do we really car. I refer to her as the Jan Brady of the 13. Moghedien- Asmodean says that she is “somewhere in the west”, which really doesn’t narrow anything down. We do however know that she can do things in Tel’aran’rhiod that Lanfear couldn’t dream of. So, I guess it’s safe to assume that she is working that angle… Rahvin- Nothing has been explicitly said but considering what we just read about Morgase and the fact that Asmodean stated that he “has a queen for a pet” we can be pretty safe in saying he is in Caemlyn. The fact that he is telling the truth about this does give him a little bit of credit to all the other information that he has said about the other forsaken, but fool me once… Sammael- Asmodean tells Rand that he is in Illian. Umm. Yep. That’s where he is. We knew this one already. Semirhage- Once again, a forsaken stated only in passing. No idea where she is. Comment (1)
Fantastic comment. Thanks for compiling this. I'd had an offline conversation about this same thing, but hadn't ever taken the time to actually track down all thirteen.
