I just got the following from the Data Center:

Ticket description: Equipment Upgrade
Ticket category: Colocation Services

As our commitment to keep your services the best possible, we have placed new equipment that will effect your collocation service. We are ready to make the switch over and will need to physically move your colocation cable from the old router to the new one. We will also be moving your ip’s to the new router. Since we are ready, it will include only about 5-15 seconds of downtime.
We will be making the move Friday night (1/18/13) starting at 11pm to 1am Saturday morning (1/19/13). If there is a slot in this time frame that would work best for you, please let us know. If we don't hear from you, then we will make the move during that time.

Planned Maintenance Window

A planned maintenance window of service for our UPS and Generator systems has been scheduled for Friday June 1st, 2012 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.. UPS protected power services to clients should not be impacted. Once the UPS systems have been serviced, power will be switched from utility to generator to insure proper function of transfer switching equipment.

Fiber.net outage

On Wednesday, December 14, 2011 @ 12:00 am, Fibernet will be performing vital maintenance and an upgrade on a router that has an ongoing hardware problem.

We will take this opportunity to upgrade the router with substantially more powerful processors, power and cooling.

The affected system include DNS and the Fibernet website. Additionally, some colocation customers may experience downtime if their network connection is directly tied to this router.

We expect the maintenance to last less than 30 minutes.

Server Outage

Service on this computer will be intermittent over the next 24-48 hours; the ISP is moving us to new networking hardware, and I'm taking the opportunity to roll us to the next release of the server operating system during the outage. See you all on the other side...

EDIT: I have also turned on mod_deflate for all content coming from 'banshee' - the production server that hosts all the homestarmy-related blogs. This should result in a decent speedup for content serving. Again, if it causes any difficulty, please let me know ASAP.

Our hosting provider will be switching over to battery backup in order to perform some preventative maintenance on the generators.

To all authors: Please login to the blog as soon as possible. I have upgraded the software used, and when you login, it needs to update the encrypted version of your password. As I was going through the list of fantasy books, video game accessories, and alternative music albums, I noticed something a little out of place. Well, I finally made it over to the data center to complete the physical inspection of our box. In the process, I rebooted it - 516 days of time, gone.

Everything checked out on the hardware, although if any of you have a spare 1U case, or a DRR1 333Mhz stick of RAM (in anything greater than 512MB) laying around, our (recently turned) 5 years old server would probably appreciate some new life.
