Covering Quantico and Grandfathered.
Since Sideshow already sent them in, we'll go for Blood and Oil and The Grinder next. QuanticoJoey's pre-watch thoughts: Something in the trailer made me think "I've already seen this one - it was called Vantage Point, and starred Matthew Fox and Dennis Quaid." Joey's Summary: Wow. Who greenlights this stuff? Just a mishmash of offensive stereotypes. Of course, the Mormon character was secretly a child molester and murderer who commits suicide before the pilot ends. Bleh. And yet, somehow, it still ended up feeling pretty derivative. Joey's Rating: 6.5 Joey's Season Prediction: Like Prison Break, the premise won't sustain more than one strong season; also like Prison Break, it will somehow limp along for 3 anyway. Aaron's pre-watch thoughts: If they focus on the FBI training this could be really good. Aaron's summary: Not the show I was expecting. Aaron's Rating: 4 Aaron's Season Prediction: 1 Sideshow chimes in: Pre-watch Thoughts: FBI training school as an excuse for a who dunnit. Summary: Wow was there a single stereotype they missed? Want to do a mystery about a terrorist in the FBI, why not start by gathering every single type of person to be feared? Homesexual, Muslim, Palestinian, Mormon, Southern Marksman, Pretty Boy with no skills skating by on his good looks, Someone who killed their father, and an Agent posing as a recruit. Yep they're all there. And they're all being trained by a former agent who made a terrible mistake and became an alcoholic, and that Agent's former girlfriend turned boss. If that's not enough, no one is as they appear to be, and are all harboring some deep dark secret. I know it's trying to build some sort of conspiracy but it's terrible at doing it. Even the big twist at the end is about as obvious as you could get. Rating: 3 Prediction. Lots of complaints about offensive stereotypes across the board throughout the 4 seasons. GrandfatheredJoey's pre-watch thoughts: I like John Stamos. That guy playing his son looks really weird. Wonder if there'll be a canned laugh-track? Joey's Summary: Well, I'm glad it wasn't "filmed before a live studio audience." I actually kind of enjoyed it - the transition from being a guy with a lot of ideas about parenting, to being a parent, is harrowing and filled with moments that are both terrifying and hilarious. Joey's Rating: 7 Joey's Season Prediction: 3 Aaron's pre-watch thoughts: All right John Stamos I like your acting I will give it a shot. Aaron's summary: It was ok but I don't think it will ever be great. It is good that Paget Brewster is getting work. This might have received a better rating if I had seen it before Life in Pieces. Aaron's Rating: 4.5 Aaron's Season Prediction: Cancelled mid-season. Sideshow chimes in: Pre-watch Thought: John Stamos has been known for 3 things. Being married to Magneto, Supposedly being attractive to females, and being Uncle Jessie on Full House. Will Full House returning, and getting Stamos' name back in the news, he decides to cash in on a concept all about being good looking while old. Summary. Nothing we haven't seen tons of times before. We've seen it better. We've seen it worse. Stamos is fine playing the 50 year old playboy who doesn't want to grow up. The out of nowhere son is a little annoying. Ultimately it was watchable, and could end up being funny in actual development as opposed to the Pilot production trying to get picked up. That being said, while it was supposed to be the big dramatic moment, the whole Kramer vs. Kramer, Checkov's Gun principle moment was just too over the top. Rating: 5 Prediction: It was fine, certainly not the worst Fox Comedy of the past few years. 2 years. Trackbacks
