Wednesday, October 11. 2006Microsummaries are Cool
If you're like me, you're already playing with Mozilla 2.0 rc2...in which case, you're asking yourself, "What is a microsummary, and how can it make my life easier?"
Microsummaries build on top of the "live bookmarks" that Mozilla pioneered, adding the ability to have the bookmark's title actually change whenever the feed changes. In the case of the Homestarmy, it took me about 5 minutes to put together a microsummary feed for it. You can subscribe to it by visiting the Generator, clicking on "Install This Generator", and then making a new bookmark to the site using the steps laid out here. Also, if you want to make your own microsummary generators, use http://joeysmith.com/~joey/microsummary.xml and http://joeysmith.com/~joey/microsummary-generator.xsl. You'll want to replace "__URL__" and "__MICROSUMMARY__NAME__" in the first URL with the real values that pertain to your site. If you need help with the XPath statements, let me know. Enjoy!
