Wren on :
I think a lot of the time, people are looking for something that isn't there. With a lot of the recordings they had sampled on their site (and on other sites I've seen), without the caption for what I was listening for - for example, if the recordings were listed as 'sample 1, sample 2, sample 45' instead of 'I love you' 'I was seeing the war' 'We're all here together', I wouldn't have been able to hear words in the static.
I think that the human mind is always looking for familiarity. We can find faces in anything. A circle with a simple network of lines stemming from it passes as a human figure on every day street signs, you know? And I think the same thing is true with sound. These people wanted desperately to be able to hear something, but a lot of times, it's just unusual static.
But sometimes, I think they really record something. And the idea terrifes me, because opening up a communication like that with something that cannot be named necessarily is dangerous. I think that probably sixty per cent of the time they actually do pick up an EVP, it's probably not a human spirit. And it's probably not an angel either, if you get my meaning. And there are all sorts of spirits out there, ranging from ones to who want to spook you to ones who are hell-bent on destroying you in any way possible.
But! I am thoroughly creeped out, so thank you. Now I can't even listen to music without being afraid that I'll hear somethign in the background.
