Swatson on :
What kind of person markets his podcast in a blog, and then sends himself a comment on it saying how "dang funny" it is? Is there a lack of confidence on the value or quality of the podcast? Can't we just enjoy the podcast? I bet Radar wouldn't have done this...haha
Ancient of Days on :
Just a lack of confidence in swatson's ability to perceive the obvious value in listening.
Johnny Elbows on :
I was a little disappointed in one segment of the podcast. At one point, while Pete and Joey were discussing leadership, they both stated that they were not good leaders, but neither pointed out what traits made someone a good leader.
Radar on :
For me a good leader is someone that I can personally look up to because they possess the following traits:
-hard work -intelligence -the ability to admit mistakes and faults -a coach -an understanding of my abilities and limitations And most important of all: -personal integrity While I don't need a leader to be my friend, I wouldn't turn it down. But that is just my list. Other people have different needs. Johnny Elbows on :
You said that you weren't a good leader. If that is the case, which of these traits don't you have? My impression is that you do have all of these traits, so it seems to me that, by your own definition, you would be a good leader.
Radar on :
You are kind and I thank you for the compliment. Perhaps I should have clarified what I meant by "a coach". I need someone to push me. I like challenges. When I have to give one of my subordinates an assignment and I see the look of sorrow and unhappiness in their faces because they know it won't be fun and it is a lot of hard work, I just feel bad. And so instead of just coming over and saying "here do this", I try to reason with them and it usually comes out as "hey do you think you can work this in to your schedule and maybe get this done?" Very insecure and waffley. I wouldn't respect someone like that.
Ancient of Days on :
I was also disappointed in *myself* for this stretch of the podcast and will be looking for an opportunity to revisit the topic in a future podcast.
Swatson on :
I like the ideas being presented about a good coach. Can a good coach inspire you or push you, or in the end is it really you and how you respond to different stimuli? When a coach has a team with a good record or wins a Super Bowl, how much of that is the coach...and how much is due to the team members? Certainly the coach designs the plays and picks the players for the roles. Can you have a good coach with a bad record or bad players? I think it's possible.
Sideshow on :
The old adage is if you win it's the players, if you lose it's the coach.
Obviously Coaching and Players both can affect the outcome of a game win or lose. However I personally feel that bad coaching is much more obvious than good coaching. I think part of this is because a lot of coaching is done behind the scenes. Sure there are gametime adjustments (unless you are Bronco Mendenhall, or Andy Ludwig), but for the most time coaching is done Monday through Saturday (or Sunday through Friday for college). While come game time players can mask bad coaching (As was the case on both sides of the Superbowl, man that game was terribly coached), or they can show just how unprepared a team is. So if they win, or even if it was a close game, the coaching isn't really noticed, but if they lose and lose badly, the coaching, and more importantly the preparation leading up to it, becomes noticed. It's the same in all aspects. If a subordinate is always on time, doing good work, The manager doesn't always get noticed, however if someone isn't doing what they are supposed to, eventually the blame shifts to the leader. Swatson on :
Hey when you guys do the podcast covering the last episodes of Season 1, are you going to have a cliffhanger in your podcast for the next podcast to solve?
Radar on :
That is a good suggestion. If we did it, then it would only be done when the season in question actually has a cliffhanger.
