Once I reached the jailhouse I could see Llan, and Azrael outside. They informed me that the jailer was insistent on waiting for Lt. Coldwater. I related to them the information I had about the Lieutenant, and that he was someone we should worry about. After I finished telling them about Lt. Coldwater, Llan informed us that although the Lieutenant may be evil, he doesn't possess the most evil aura in the town. He said this just as Lt. Coldwater himself came up from behind us.
Everyone headed inside the jailhouse, as we attempted to tell Lt. Coldwater about the red-headed man. However he wasnt' too concerned, and felt that only posting the mans information was enough to suffice. As I paid for Jackle's release Llan began questioning the Lieutenant about the Rangers. Coldwater told us that he had heard from the rangers just a couple days ago. "LIAR" accused Llan, taking the Lieutenant by surprise. "You have not heard from your rangers in quite some time." continued Llan, futher angering Lt. Coldwater, who insisted that he need not answer to us. Seeing the situation get out of control, Jackle decided to play peacemaker for once, and offerred to leave the town so we can put everything behind us. Lt. Coldwater told Jackle he could go, but then turned to me and and warned me I shouldn't leave before the matter of my threat towards the mayor were resolved. I told him Not to worry because I had no plan to leave the "Fence's" around the town.
I moved us into a public area where I went on to tell everyone there all the information I knew, and that our lives may very well be in danger. As I was explaining about the plot on the mayor, Llan noticed some people watching us very intently. I decided to stop my story for the time being, and we all came up with a plan to get out of town, as we didn't feel safe spending much time here. There was a disagreement about what to do next. Llan wanted to go to the Temple first. Jackle was insistent on going to the Tavern to get our horses, despite my warnings that the Tavern is watched closely by Lampwick and his men. Once we got to the tavern we could see that our horses were missing, and standing in the doorway was Lampwick, who said "Prometheus, we need to talk! I heard someone who look like you caused quite a stir at the barracks." Though I knew it was futile I kept up the charade that I wasn't Prometheus. While I conversed with Lampwick, Jackle walked into the tavern, presumably to ask about our horses. On his way out, he was stopped by Lampwick. After a few moments of arguing Jackle shoved Lampwick against the wall. Jackle then began to walk towards us, when Lampwick came after him. Jackle was able to force Lampwick's hand to where we could all see the dagger he held. Lampwick shoved Jackle down and ran off into his maze of alleys. We decided not to risk the maze of alleys, and instead started towards the temple. We didn't get far before a couple of bandits stepped out of the shadows to confront us, and told us that Lampwick wanted to talk to us. Jackle of course informed the two that Lampwick had his chance, but ran off like a chicken. Realizing the only way this was going to end I fired my crossbow at one of the bandits. Despite the reinforcements that came to help out the bandits, they were pretty well overmatched, and before too long Llan was finishing off the final of 7 bandits. As the final bandit's lifeless body fell to the ground we could hear from behind us someone commanding "EVERYBODY STOP!" We turned to see an infuriated Lt. Coldwater. He was accompanied by the Mayor, as well as someone I recognized from the temple. The final member of his party was our own Thellonius who had been at the temple. Lt. Coldwater then asked us why we were slaughtering the members of his town in cold blood. I was beginning to get fed up with this man. It was becoming clearer the he would have to die, for this to all be settled, but I knew it wasn't the time for that. The Mayor approached and introduced himself as Tom Blackburn. I recognized this as the name of the man who's diamond was stolen. I convinced the Mayor that we should all head to the Temple. Once there the Mayor accusingly asked Llan why a holy man such as himself was slaughtering people. This did not sit well with the group as an argument ensued. Lt. Coldwater was arguing that we all needed to be thrown into jail. Jackle interrupted saying that Coldwater was the one who needed to be in jail for treason. As he did this Jackle grabbed the Lieutenant and held him up against a wall. I began telling the Mayor the information I need. As I told my story, Lt. Coldwater began to get extremely nervous and tried to escape Jackle. I don't know how it is possible, but Jackle somehow missed a headbutt against the guy. How in the world do you miss a headbutt against a guy you are holding right in front of you? The Mayor asked us to release the Lieutenant, which Jackle begrudgingly did. He then asked if I would submit to a discern lies spell from his Cleric, which I gladly allowed. Now that the Mayor knew the truth he asked Jackle to disarm the Lieutenant. While this was going on Llan informed the Mayor of his visions. Jackle attempted to intimidate Coldwater to get some information out of him, but was unable to. We had two guards escort the former Lieutenant to jail while the rest of us began discussing the next course of action. We knew we must begin preparing the city for the upcoming attack. He asked that we take charge of the city defenses. We agreed and began heading towards the barracks. Before we got too far though the Mayor invited a lady into the room, and asked that we allow a newcomer to accompany us. He said that there wasn't time for introductions at this point, but that she was a Druid, and her name was Kitya. She was also accompanied by her fox. So with our group once again expanded we headed towards the barracks, to see if we could save this town. Trackbacks
