The Seal on the Dark One's prison is a metaphysical one; there's nothing physical to "throw into the ocean"
Monday, September 16. 2013The Shadow Rising (Chapters 55-58)
Fantastic ending to a great book. The way in which Jordan has managed to capture the quintessential sword and sorcery tale, is really quite good. A great followup to Book 3. Though I guess I am getting kind of burned out on these write ups due to work taking so much time from me. Continued in-attempts to make sure spelling is correct. Chapters below the fold. No summary this week.
Ch55 Into The Deep
The girls all meet up again and share what happened. Nineve shows off the spoils of her work/conflict and a discussion ensues about what to do with them. Melting the male collar and chains is impossible and Bale Doman is charged to take them to the deepest part of the ocean and throw them in. Why not do that with the Dark One's seal as well? Ch56 Goldeneyes The final push from the Trollocks comes but not before Perrin agrees to the wishes of the Whitecloaks, after they help defend the village. The Trolloks are defeated, thanks in part to some other fighters from another village showing up in the nick of time. The Whitecloaks did nothing to help and so Perrin feels justified in ignoring their demands that he get arrested. The chapter ends oddly as Fayne goes off on a rant about how much he hates this area. Seemed odd to me. Ch57 A Breaking in the Three-Fold Land Rand arrives at Cold Rocks Hold just behind Cooladin and the gang. He breaks all sorts of customs and thankfully so, because Cooladin decides to name himself the Car-A-Carn. He even shows off his special dragon tattoos that Rand has. Then Rand shows his arms and things get confusing for all watching. Rand inevitablly proves that he is the rightful Car-A-Carn because he says what actually happens in Roydion while Cooladin makes up some story intended to enliven the Eyeel crowd. But then the clan chiefs all declare for Rand because they know what happens when you go to Roydion and Cooladin never went. Fighting breaks out. Rand makes it rain up in their. Lanfear shows herself and is mad for messing up her plans. Asmodean was the one who helped Cooladin. And now Asmodean has gone to Roydean to get something. Rand channels a portal and pursues. Ch58 The Traps of Roydion Rand battles all sorts of traps that Asmodean sets for him. Asmodean turns out to be the gleeman, Jason. They battle over a statue that helps them control the power. In the end Rand wins because he has his little Buddha statue to help him channel more power. Lanfear shows up again and explains parts of her plans and then leaves. Asmodean is now in Rands control. Rand picks up a similar statue that women would be able to use. He needs to hide these from everyone else. Cooladin and the Gang have fled along with a bunch of other Eyeel. Some leave just because they can't believe that they were descendants of people who followed the way of the leaf. They will now wait for the rest of the clans to show up. Trackbacks

Well... That isn't entirely true. I see what you mean. But there is a PHYSICAL portion to the seal. That is the 7 yin-yang like discs made of cuendillar. While it is true that these are not "seals" in the traditional sense, more of a focus point, or anchoring point for them here in the physical world. However, in common language, they are referred to as "seals". So yeah, I don't know why they don't just throw them in. (actually I do, but I'm pretending that I don't so that there are no spoilers.)

And now, book 5. Also known as, Girl argues with other girl who argues with other girl who argues with other girl who argues...
