When I first heard my brother's voice I just thought it was part of some dream. And then the city alarm was going off. Great just great, what the heck has he done now. Then there was the sargeant running around yelling at troops that the city was under attack. Something told me I should just stay asleep.
I ignored the Sargeants insistence that I get ready for battle, and headed to the gates to talk to my brother. After his initial shock that I was in the barracks he began to tell me of the mornings events. Jackle was at the tavern enjoying some breakfast when he heard a disturbance outside. When he rushed outside he saw Llan in the middle of the road with an extremely bright light where his nose was supposed to be. Apparently during the night Llan had received another vision of orcs deep in the forest preparing for an attack. This time though the feeling of Hextor's presense was stronger than before. Llan conferred with others at the temple who told him they too had been receiving this vision, but they had been given a feeling that Llan would be the one to prevent it from happening. They gave Llan a holy medallion that would burn whenever an evil aura was around. Llan then headed towards the tavern to find Jackle.
On his way to the tavern Llan bumped into a man with red hair, and his medallion began to burn extremely hot. Llan attempted to stop the man but was rebuked. As Llan started to follow him, the red-headed man turned and cast Light upon Llan's face. His proficiency in magic was great enough that the light shone bright enough to blind Llan. After hearing this news Jackle began to spring into action to try and be the hero of the town. He found out the man in charge of the City Guard was a Lt. Coldwater. As Azrael took Llan to the temple to have the light dispelled, Jackle ran towards the barracks. Never one for much tact, Jackle decided that calm was not the order of the day. Instead he tried to bully the men guarding the barracks into taking him to see Lt. Coldwater. When he was rebuked by the men, Jackle became frustrated and blurted out that orcs were just outside the city gates about to attack the city. After talking to my brother, I made him realise that although orcs were preparing to attack the city, there is a difference between that and being outside the city gates. However, Jackle was right to bring this up to the City Guard, so I got the guardsmen to let him in, and we went inside the Barracks, to find the Sargeant, and explain the situation. Upon hearing that the orcs weren't exactly right outside the city gates, as Jackle had said, he cancelled the city alarm. Unfortunately that is where the Sargeant stopped listening to any bit of reasoning, and instead informed Jackle that false alarms are a serious matter and he would be spending some time in jail. Of course, being the calm level-headed person he is, Jackle to this news well.... or not. Jackle began yelling at the Sargeant that he wanted to see Lt. Coldwater, and began tossing insults towards the Sargeant's abilities. The situation soon escalated to the point where four soldiers were called in to apprehend him. Despite my many warning to him to calm down, Jackle, as he always does, thought he could take them all on. So I figured I'd might as well enjoy the show and moved aside. Jackle was able to throw one guy away, but the other three guys were able to quite easily grab a hold of him. I fully agreed with the Sargeant that Jackle should spend jail time for causing this disturbance, but I also knew we'd be better off with him when the battle did occur, so I lobbied to have the sentence served after the impending situation. After the Sargeant turned me down, Jackle was hauled off to jail. Trackbacks
