Nothing like Rats in a lab maze

"Yes, I've been watching. I haven't been very impressed."
"Then you haven't been watching closely enough. He's doing things now that we can't duplicate, and we've been researching this for . . . well, for a long time. I'm not even sure how long it's been." "What's he doing that's so impressive?" "It's not just one thing. You see, the thing that's most impressive is the way that he inspires cooperation. So often, they don't. So often, they know that they will die soon, so they have to spend their short lives striving for immortality. They have to outdo those who came before them. They have to outdo their colleagues. It becomes such a competition that no one shares anything, and their progress slows. That's why they've never fulfilled their potential." "Oh now you're diagnosing the problems in the system. What is it that you want?" "I don't want anything. I'm just trying to make a point. This one's different." "You want to make an exception?" "Yes. I think we have to. If we give him extra time, just think what he could accomplish." "Is it really him that's accomplishing things?" "No. He's not the innovator. He's a synthesizer. He knows how to get people to share their ideas. He knows how to inspire them to innovate. And when they do, he's quick to use their ideas to improve things."
"I still don't see how his work is beneficial. He's going down a path that's already been thoroughly explored." "You might be right. Do you think that's all it is? I mean, he's doing things differently, choosing different subjects, integrating things more completely . . ." "Let's let him work. If he's able to keep things together, they may accomplish something. Like you said, they are progressing rapidly. What remains to be seen is whether or not they're going in the right direction." "Do you think he'll be able to keep things together?" "I don't know. The fractures seem to be multiplying." "And our glue?" "I think you better watch her more carefully than anyone. I don't know for sure, but she could be our undoing." "Our undoing?" "Yes. I think she could bring everything down around our ears. " Trackbacks

Very mysteeeeeeeeeerious

So am I the only one lost as to who this is? Is it the two "cops"?
Ancient Of Days on :
This is the voice I've been waiting for to start tying some of this stuff together.
Radar: It doesn't matter so much at this point WHO they are, as it does what they tell us about the world. 1) Someone, somewhere, knows EVERYTHING that Tommy & co. are doing. They're incredibly aware of what they're doing. 2) It tells us that we can finally trust what Rocio has been saying about her motivations, to some extent. (Or am I the only one that has had doubts?) 3) It tells us that SDS isn't a natural thing. These parties *CAUSE* SDS, even if only because they hold the ability to grant people more time (but I still think it's more overt than that). 4) "He's going down a path that's already been thoroughly explored." This, in my mind, reinforces the idea that the world Tommy, Howell, and Macon live in is NOT the same world as the voices having the conversation: The world of Tommy et al is an environment of some sort, but Tommy is doing new things with the technology that might lead to new technology: "just think what he could accomplish." |
