Wednesday, August 18. 2010Time to Pay Up
My psychic powers have only increased since last fantasy football season, and I am happy to report that I correctly picked the return of Brett Favre (the five letter f-word) to the Minnesota Vikings.

Camps are now two weeks old. Utah and BYU have both had their scrimmages. Positions are starting to be sorted out, even If Bronco won't admit it. Honestly though he shouldn't. We have our first official pre-season Top 25, with the usual big boys club hand shaking in tact. Everyone is still dreaming big. BCS Dreams, National Championship dreams are all still fully reachable.
The question is, will they be reached? Continue reading "Red, Blue And Pigskin" Tuesday, August 3. 2010

Do you feel that? The shift? A world that has been out of whack since early this year, is finally starting to right itself. Chaos, is starting to make way for order. A terrible wrong is being righted.
That's right, Football is almost back. The NFL Players have already started their training camp, including the St. Louis Rams further cementing their doom by paying a rookie QB who couldn't stay healthy in college, and is coming off of two surgeries to his throwing shoulder, and was thoroughly befuddled before he got injured by BYU's defense in the opening game last year, 78 million dollars over 6 years, including 50 million guaranteed. Heck even Brett Favre is at it again. But Alas, that's not what we're here to talk about, there is another space for that. We're here to talk about the pageantry, the beauty, and the frustrating lack of a championship that is College Football. Fall camps are starting up. The Utes report Thursday, Cougars on Saturday. Heck even the Aggies of Utah State, who are preparing to shock the world in the WAC, report on Monday. But before we can get to the future, we should take some time to relive a relatively quiet offseason for local teams and the MWC. Football is back, and so is Red, Blue And Pigskin. Ahh the Holy War. It was a bit of a sloppy game, with tempers flaring on both sides. It had hard hits, personal fouls, big plays, a post game interview low on class, and despite a memorable final play, the game itself wasn't all that memorable, won't be remembered that much in the annals of the Rivalry history, except for a certain set of comments.

A few weeks ago thRhett talked about some of the moments in sports that he loves. Personally I think he forgot one. I've been in a stadium when it's happened before, against the then highly ranked Oregon in 2003.
What moment is that? It's when the home team gets to start the O-ver-rat-ed chant against a highly ranked visitor. Kinda like TCU fans are doing to BYU right now. Monday, October 6. 2008Utah vs. TCU
Just want to put out one last call for anyone wanting to go this game. It's on November 6th. I'm bringing my five year old. Sideshow and Kermit have committed. Anyone else want me to get tickets for them so we can all sit together?

This was a long post detailing the games, but I clicked the wrong button and lost it all, and I don't have the heart to type it again. Summary: Lost, Lost, Lost. Went home.
Sunday, April 13. 2008Some Clarifications
Since I've entered the Utah County Corporate Games in Racquetball, I decided to brush up on the OFFICIAL rules. Here are some that we don't all play consistently:
Ball Hits Opponent. When an opponent is hit by a return shot in flight, it is a replay hinder. If the opponent is struck by a ball that obviously did not have the velocity or direction to reach the front wall, it is not a hinder, and the player who hit the ball will lose the rally. A player who has been hit by the ball can stop play and make the call though the call must be made immediately [Note: There's no special provision for being hit while in the service box after server - this is a normal reserve.] During play, a player loses the rally if any one of the following occurs: 1. The ball bounces on the floor more than once before being struck. 2. The ball does not reach the front wall on the fly. 3. The ball flies into the spectator's gallery or wall opening or strikes an out-of-bounds surface above the court's normal playing area [cf. Rule 2.1(a)].[7] 4. A slow ball with neither the velocity nor direction needed to strike the front wall strikes another player. 5. A ball struck by a player hits that player or that player's partner. 6. A penalized hindrance [cf. Rule 3.15]. 7. Switching racquet hands during a rally. 8. Not using a racquet wrist-safety cord. 9. Touching the ball with either the body or uniform. 10. Carrying or slinging the ball with the racquet. Tuesday, March 25. 2008I'll up the ante on Odd.
The Lakers are a negative half game behind the Hornets.
Math! Wednesday, February 6. 2008NBA Trades
Is it just me or are NBA GMs always about 5 years behind the times? Seriously, who cares about Shaquille O'Neal?
Also, Pau Gasol to the Lakers for. . .nothing? Is this really addition by subtraction Grizzlies? "What are they (expletive) thinking?" one Western Conference executive blurted late Tuesday night. Update: Regarding the Suns trade Monday, February 4. 2008Reverse Voodoo Works
I Happily admit I was wrong. I'm just happy that all that Reverse Jinxing I threw into last Weeks TVftC worked.
Tough break MG. I feel for you know what it's like. But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I am thrilled at the outcome and the Patriots having the big chokejob. Thursday, January 31. 2008The View from the Crossbar
Well we are almost there. That magical last game, that pits the NFC best vs. the AFC best. The AFC squad looks tough and hard to beat, but the NFC squad seems to be a bit more scrappy. At least the losing team though will get to enjoy a weekend in Hawaii.
What? Oh wait you mean the game everyone is looking forward to is the Super Bowl? Well, I guess we can talk about that game as well, but before we do let's review a couple things that were shown during conference championship weekend.
