Friday, January 26. 2007I have come a long way
Who would have thought that, a little farm boy from Linden would be sitting on an airplane typing out an article to share with his friends on their bolg. I have come a long way in my life to reach this point and I find that as I sit here, at about 35,000 ft. hovering somewhere over the Sierra Nevada mountain range, that I am truely blessed.
I spent the better part of an hour sitting in the airport this morning waiting to board my plane sending emails to clients and co-workers. I felt it an odd experience to be sure. This is by no means my first time on an airplane, but so many times before I sat waiting in an airport bored stiff and trying to look like I was actually interested in what was happening down at the Cinn-a-bon. Internally I longed to be one of those people who pulled out their laptop to do "important" stuff. I was this morning; and it felt good. I will admit a sad lesson that I learned. I actually had typed this article out once before while I waited this morning to board. I was logged into the homestarmy typing away at this very article and I pulled out my verizion aircard to connect to the web and post it, when my connection went down mid-load. I was devastated! I had just lost the entire article. So now I sit in the upper atmosphere re-writing (though to be candid, this article does not contain the same words) in notepad. I will not make the mistake again of working offline on the web. I have learned to work in something that you can save locally. One might have become bitter and angry about having lost about 15 minutes worth of work. And let's be fair, I have never fully enjoyed writing. But I am neither disgruntled or pissed off. I have finally become one of the people I used to so longingly gaze at. I don't know if there is a name for these people, but for this morning and the rest of my vacation at home, I am one of them. And it feels good! I don't feel any different, being on this side of the laptop monitor. The only thing I worry about is when the battery will die. Because I have no idea how this blasted thing works! Thursday, January 25. 2007Bow Ties?
So I thought it would be a good idea to try something new. I asked my Mother for a couple of bow ties for Christmas. She performed admirably and I now have two bow ties. They look great, and I love them.
One problem: I don't know how to tie a bow tie. So do one of you happen to know how to tie a bow tie, or perhaps know of a web site that teaches one how to do it? If you could let me know, I would be greatful. Who knows, maybe this is what has been keeping me single all these years. :) Thursday, January 18. 2007My crappy night!
So I came home from my soccer game last night (we won, and I scored another Hat-trick) sweaty and tired to find that my apartment was rather cold (approximately 60 deg. and falling fast). I called my landlord only to find out that she knew about it, but could not do anything until the next day. So I had no heat and no hot water.
My options: 1. Take a cold shower right then and get clean. Then go to bed with extra blankets to try and stave off hypothermia. 2. Go to bed as is with an extra blanket to hopefully stave off the cold of the night, and then shower in the morning. Hopefully again avoiding hypothermia. 3. Go to bed and not shower in the morning, and just hope no one would smell my sweaty body at work. 4. Boil water and take a bath. I opted for item #4. So I began the long process of boiling copious amounts of water to fill my tub with hot water. Around 10pm I had filled my tub with enough water that I felt comfortable taking a bath. I poured the last pan of hot water in the tub and then all the lights went very dim. I quickly started to turn things off, but to no avail. I was plunged into darkness. Sweaty, stinky, cold, and moist (from all the steam of the boiling water) I slumped into my chair and just sat in the darkness for about 5 minutes. I finally picked myself up and called a friend to crash at his place. I think I got about 4 hours sleep last night. I am about to leave work right now. Here's hoping when I get home I will have heat and hot water. Wednesday, January 17. 2007This just shows you can find humor in anything!

(THAT MEANS YOU WREN) While at work the other day, one of my co-workers started laughing when I walked into the room. Concerned that I might, one more time, be the butt of some unknown joke, I inquired as to his laughter. He told me that he had been reading an article about the hanging of of Saddam Husseins' half brother Barzan Ibrahim. It talked about how his hanging was different from others in that his head came off when his body dropped in the gallows. Many were outragged that the governement had mutilated his body and did not believe that it was an "accident." But the film showed that his head had indeed come off during the hanging. Turns out this kind of thing is possible. The article states: "Egyptian forensics expert Fakhri Mohammed Saleh told Al-Jazeera that decapitations sometimes occur during hangings if the rope used is of the wrong quality or the people carrying out the executions are inexperienced." But that is not the truely funny thing. This point in the article is the funny part: "Al-Dabbagh said the gallows were built to international standards and in accordance with human rights organizations. But Param-Preet Singh, counsel for the international justice program at Human Rights Watch, said she was not aware of any internationally recognized standards for hanging. "Under no circumstances can an execution be in accordance with human rights standards," she said." Friday, January 5. 2007Don't be mad Joey
My knee really hurts. :( But the good news is that my injury doesn't preclude me from eating at chinese restaurants that rhyme with the word Rings.
Friday, December 15. 2006It's official: I'm in Love!
Every year around this time, I get excited for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert. I have been to a total of five now (one for every Christmas I have been here). And almost every year I have had to stand back and wonder at why they chose the special guest that they did. Because frankly I had no idea who any of them were.
Past performances have included Angela Lansbury (though I was not in Salt Lake when she came), Walter Cronkite, Frederica von Stade and Bryn Terfel, Audra McDonald, Renee Flemming, and this year Sissel. Continue reading "It's official: I'm in Love!" Friday, December 1. 2006I are a HTML'er!
So I have been reading this book about HTML and I learned about hr tags last night. So when In came in this morning I went and played around with them.
I think it's cool. I like HTML! Tuesday, September 26. 2006I may never go to FHE again
Holy crap they have managed to do it again. I sat down last night to relax from another hectic day of work and stress. I was all prepared to sit and vegetate the night away. That didn't happen.
Instead of having a peaceful evening of respite and inactivity, I found myself amped and jittery. You see a new show premiered on NBC last night; Heroes. I will not in any way spoil the plot, but suffice it to say, it looks to me like it is going to be much better than the last two Xmen movies were. Great writing, good acting, and several fantastic stories all waiting to join together in one powerful, unstoppable saga. No longer will I only have Studio 60. Heroes has captured my imagination. If you somehow missed it, you can catch it on their NBC page, by following the link above. Totally check it out. By way of follow up Studio 60 also kicked total butt last night with another brilliant story. Tuesday, September 19. 2006My wonderful evening
So Joey and I have been quite bummed out since we finished watching The West Wing. It was a brilliantly written and acted tv series. While Joey and I never fully agreed with all of the politics we grew to love the characters and plot lines. (And though Joey refuses to admit it publicly, he considers Martin Sheen "his President")
To be fair The West Wing started to go down-hill when the shows creator, writer, and producer, Aaron Sorkin, stopped participating with the show. However my doldrums have ceased! Aaron Sorkin, and his co-executive producer Thomas Schlamee (also from The West Wing), are back! Last night I watched the premier of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and I was not disappointed in the slightest. Finally there is a smart, funny, witty, well acted show (besides My Name is Earl, and The Office) back on tv. I highly encourage all of you to watch it. Thursday, September 14. 2006Al-Mormons
You just might be able to catch more flies with honey instead of vinegar. Enjoy!
Wednesday, September 13. 2006mmmmmmmm!
I just wanted to let Joey know that I was eating Ming's chinese food for lunch. And boy is it good!!!! :)
Saturday, September 9. 2006Cause it made me laugh
So I was driving into work today and I noticed something that made me laugh. You may have heard it before but I thought I would share it any way. The license plate holder around the car in front of me said this:
There are 3 types of people in this world; those who can count and those who can't. On an unrelated note, is anyone else uncomfortable about the fact that dictionary.com has changed their look? Tuesday, August 29. 2006Ouch!
Soccer really is a tough sport. But when the trainers cause you just as much pain as the other players, maybe you should sub out of the game.
Friday, August 11. 2006Monkey Play
How in the world this Monkey survived, I will never know.
Tuesday, August 8. 2006Anyone need a good laugh?
Exercise never looked so hilarious, or gay!
