Movie Review: Enchanted

You should all watch this. It's not good enough that I'd suggest you drop everything and run to the closest RedBox to rent it, but there's definitely something for everyone in this movie.

I thought they could have spent a little more time on Prince Edward, especially on his innocent narcissism - it should have been played to the hilt, instead of toned-down.

Giselle is pretty hot, and I loved the dresses she made out of various articles of cloth. The back-stage crew - especially costumes, hair, and make-up - deserve an Emmy for making the mediocre Amy Adams into a hottie.

Wikipedia says it started its life in Hollywood as an R-rated lampoon of Disney foibles, but I think it probably works better as the caricature it eventually became. There are a lot of chuckles, and at least one good outright laugh - there are even worthwhile scenes that didn't get spoiled in trailers, which was perhaps my biggest fear about this flick.

Actually Since it was a Movie they would be eligible for an Oscar (Emmy's are TV.) or a Golden Globe, which is a mixture.

Sadly most of the awards shows focused on the Song or Amy Adams herself, and they were never nominated for Costume. That Oscar went to Elizabeth: The Golden Age Last year.

But Elizabeth was specifically a costume drama, so that makes sense.

Hey, thank you for clarifying that point. I'll admit that I was clearly wrong here - I have never before realized there was a difference between an Emmy and an Oscar. I thought it was two names for the same thing.

While you're at it, where does 'Academy Award' fall into that mix?

Thanks. I've never really bothered to pay much attention to these - the only movie that I've ever cared about winning anything was "The Lord of the Rings", and it won some stuff, which is great.

I think this movie really loses a lot of awesome if you weren't one of those little girls who dressed up and pretended you were a D*sney princess between the ages of 3 and 9. Okay, 12. Okay, okay, I still want to be a princess. But when I saw this for the first time, I went to it in a theater and watched it with a couple of my close girl friends who also grew up wishing they were princesses (Belle and Ariel respectively), and the experience was piles of fun for us.

I can't imagine it started out as an R-rating at all, simply because I think it was originally meant as a Disney movie and Disney doesn't make R-rated anything (do they?)

Films released as Disney do not get R ratings. However Touchstone Pictures, which is owned by Disney does release R Rated Movies. (Apocalypto, LadyKillers, are recent examples)

So It wouldn't surprise me if it was originally an R-rated movie for an affiliate and later got changed and put under the Disney name. Afterall other movies that have made that same transition include Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Hidalgo, and Remember the Titans.

It WOULD surprise me, because it seems such an obvious spoof of D*sney fastasy animated films. Maybe it didn't start that way, but seeing as how the ENTIRE MOVIE was a spoof on D*sney princesses, I can't imagine it could even be considered the same script if it started out as something different.
My point is I think wikipedia got it wrong.

Actually I would say the fact that it was a spoof of Disney Princesses gives more weight to the possibility of it having started out as an R Rated movie.

I agree with Sideshow - it was ALWAYS a spoof of Disney "Princess" films, but it was a "racier" spoof initially - they just cut all the full-frontal nudity scenes and called it PG.
