The War is Over.

Well today makes it official, the HD-DVD war is over.

Which promted the following conversation with Giggler.

Sideshow:So great Blu-Ray has won the HD Format war. Now all Sony has to do, is convince the vast majority of consumers that it's worth:
1. If they don't already, shelling out the bucks for an HD-TV
2. Shelling out the bucks for an Blu-Ray Player
3 Re-buying their entire movie library in the new disc, which also costs about twice as much.
And Sony has to do it before the internet digital movie services take hold

there's nothing that HD movies have to offer me, because I'm unwilling to buy an HDTV
I'm certainly unwilling to repurchase my DVD library

Heck my dad has an HD-TV, and I still can't recommend him buying a Blu-Ray player. Not even for the gaming console that comes with it.

Indie Films: Primer

I just watched an interesting movie called Primer, via Netflix's streaming service. It was entertaining, if a bit muddled, and you have to admire the fact that they made a great movie for only $7000.

A Movie I'm Excited About

I really enjoyed Mark Millar's "Wanted" graphic novel/comics, so I was excited to see they made it into a movie, even if it does mean another 3 hours of my life wasted staring at Angelina's ugly mug.

Here's a VERY brief description from Amazon - trust me, it doesn't do justice to the concept:

The Last Mimzy

Is it just me, or did it seem to anyone else as if there were two different creative teams working on this movie? There was the good one, who came up with the general concepts, and then the crappy one, who actually wrote the dialog and dropped the ball on the pacing...

Also, the teacher's voice sounds eerily like the voice of Lady Deirdre Skye, the leader of the faction "Gaia's Stepdaughters" from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

New Anime

A Book and a Movie Recommendation

So I recently watched the movie The Prestige. I enjoyed it very much. It's a nice little brain teaser. I decided to read the book.

The book is also a good read. Nothing heavy, but a nice quick read.

But It's one of the few times when I actually liked both the book and the movie, and can say I liked the Movie better. Just figured I'd offer a recommendation since I never see any of you to mention it in person.

So, to any one who has bothered to take the time to listen to my psychobabble these past few weeks, you'll know that I was very excited to see the movie, RENT. .

Man, it was spectacular. I think every one should go see it. Right now.
A decidedly Bohemian theme, the story is an expression of love, with a message that happiness can exist even in the most terryfying, suburban hell. While I must say that the movie was not as good as I expect the on-stage play to be, it was still great. I bawled the first time I saw it, and cried the entire way through the second time. (A/N: This may be because I'm extremely hormonal at this time of the month, so, you know, don't really expect it to be terribly heart-rending.)

So, Daboo, I'm definately taking you. With MG, if possible. As for the rest of you, go see it.
