I Happily admit I was wrong. I'm just happy that all that Reverse Jinxing I threw into last Weeks TVftC worked.

Tough break MG. I feel for you know what it's like.

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I am thrilled at the outcome and the Patriots having the big chokejob.

Well we are almost there. That magical last game, that pits the NFC best vs. the AFC best. The AFC squad looks tough
and hard to beat, but the NFC squad seems to be a bit more scrappy. At least the losing team though will get to enjoy
a weekend in Hawaii.

What? Oh wait you mean the game everyone is looking forward to is the Super Bowl? Well, I guess we can talk about
that game as well, but before we do let's review a couple things that were shown during conference championship weekend.
Continue reading "The View from the Crossbar"

I hate to start off with a sad note, but Real life intruded on the sports world this week as Redskins Safety Sean Taylor
was died from gun wounds suffered when he confronted a burglar in his home this past Monday. Taylor was one of the
better safeties in the NFL, and had seemed to turn his off the field life around after some early career issues.

Sports are supposed to be an escape. It's a reminder of days gone by when you used to draw up plays like "Run to the
car and turn in". For 3 hour segments we were able to watch and relive simpler days. That's why it's always so
bothersome when the real world intervenes in our Sports world. Sports are what we use to get away from the real
world.

It's also why it's so frustrating when people who are lucky enough to still be in that sports world waste it. Stories
like Pac-man Jones, Mike Vick, Chris Henry, Tank Johnson are so frustrating because it brings the real world into the
sports world. It shatters that realm where good battles evil in the form of Rams/Niners, or Patriots/Colts (You choose
your good versus your evil.) And ordinary men can still perform amazing feats.

So to the family of Sean Taylor the crossbar sends his best wishes, and regards.
So week 2 has come and gone. Typically the NFL Season begins to figure itself out after a crazy and wild first two
weeks. Well the '07 first two weeks didn't disappoint. There have been some surprises, some disappointments, some head
scratching, and a Surprisingly high scoring game, that history tells us shouldn't have surprised us at all.

And while it's hard to really have learned anything after just two weeks, one thing we definitely have learned is that
my vantage point on the crossbar, doesn't really do much when it comes to predictions.
Continue reading "The View From the Crossbar"

Can you feel it? That tingling sensation in the air that marks the end of our long national nightmare. That's right.
Tonight it's back. The NFL Kicks off for real tonight with a showdown of the Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts
hosts 2006's Feel Good Surprise Story New Orleans Saints. At least I think there will be a game in between all the
rock concert type shenanigans that the NFL has turned it's opener into.

With the start of the season comes my predictions for what you will see in 2007. Just remember, I expect an equal
share on all winning garnered from these predictions. However if I'm wrong, don't come looking to me for
reimbursement.
This week marks the trial run of this article's new name. Next we just need mascots, uniforms, home stadium and
cheerleaders of course. But since I always think it's cool when women are big into football, we might even need some
beefcake for the ladies.

Anyways last week I ran down my preview of the AFC, or as it is known in the Football world, the conference that kicks
the crap out of the fools from the NFC.

This week we'll preview those fools, and while I wish I could make a case for this season being different, I just don't
see it happening.

Next week all the nonsense ends, as I make my predictions for real, just in time for the Greatest Moment of the Year.
That's right Opening Kickoff.

Last week I proved that there isn't any east coast bias from this writer, but it got me thinking. We always here about
East and West Coast bias. What about Northern and Souther Border bias. Never really hear about the two borders, unless
you have police hot on your tail that is.

So this week We're starting up North in the NFC, with the weakest division in the NFL.
So I've had a couple good ideas for names given, but I haven't decided on what to name this yet.

Anyways, relating to the Football news it's been an interesting week, with the biggest news coming out of Atlanta where
Future Former Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick entered into an agreement to plead guilty to federal criminal charges
regarding the ongoing dogfighting investigation. Punishment is currently unknown, but one thing we do know. Atlanta
might actually be a threat with a Quarterback playing the QB Position instead of a glorified RB. Even if it is Joey
Harrington..... then again it is Joey Harrington.

Well it's time for my predictions/previews for this upcoming season. Well preview anyways. Predictions will come
later.
Continue reading "The Still As Yet Undecided Named Football Article"

    It's back..........

No not the NFL, although it too made it glorious return this past weekend with preseason action, and is now less than a
month away from the real things.

What I'm referring to is the return, after an almost two year hiatus of Tuesday Morning Overreactions. also known as
Sideshow's extremely wordy ramblings on the greatest sport known to man.

However there is going to be a couple changes. First off the name. This column never became what I had originally
envisioned when I named it Tuesday Morning Overreactions, and truth be told I never liked that name. So I'm going to
rename it. Haven't thought of what yet, and "Sideshow's extremely wordy ramblings on the greatest sport known to man"
seems a bit too long. So any ideas are definitely welcome.

Secondly, and this also goes with the name change, I no longer promise it to be on Tuesday's. Last time I ran this it
started coming out closer to Wednesday and Thursday, and Having an article name Tuesday Morning Overreactions is a lot
like having College Students going to school on a bus that promotes it's new routes with the phrase "Easier, Faster,
Oftener" (Thanks UTA), there's just something not quite right about it.

Finally some things worked a couple seasons ago, some things didn't. So I'm going to keep some sections and lose some
sections.

With that out of the way My Attempt on owning all 15 of the wordiest articles on this blog is now underway.
Continue reading "The Article Formerly Known as "Tuesday Morning Overreactions""

Ahh April. Such a good time of year. Spring is here. Flowers start blooming. NBA and NHL playoffs kick off. The NFL
schedule gets announced. And most importantly, for two wonderful days, dreams come true for future NFL players. Sure
many of these players won't amount to a hill of beans in the NFL, but during the NFL draft everyone is a future start,
and every team got the exact player it wanted. It's just really great that with 255 selections no teams wanted the same
player as another team.

There were many interesting things that happened this weekend. Cleveland passing on Brady Quinn with the 3rd overall
pick to take the LT Joe Thomas, which was the right decision, by the way, just to pick Brady Quinn 4 hours later with
the 22nd pick.

The Patriots trading a 4th round pick for WR Randy Moss, and the media immediately going crazy over what is essentially
a non story.

Or how about the Seattle Seahawks, trading away their best WR Darrell Jackson to divisional rival San Francisco. That
is a reall puzzler of a trade.

And now it's time to break it down. But don't worry it won't take near as long as the 6 plus hour first round did, of
which I watched all 32 picks, and then stuck around for the next 223 picks as well.

Worst pick of the draft

A strong case can be made for Philadelphia using their first pick of the day, to draft a QB in the 2nd round.
Nevermind they have 3 capable qb's on their roster including a guy named Donovan McNabb. Drafting a QB with a teams
first pick of a draft is only asking for problems. Then again the Reid era Iggles haven't always been the best drafting
team.

But that's not my choice. However, my choice does involve a QB with a teams first pick of the draft.
Continue reading "Tuesday Morning Overreactions: Grading the Draft!"

Sixty minutes. That's all it takes to lay an egg in an important late season game and undo all the previous work that a
team has put in. Just ask the Carolina Panthers or the San Dieago Chargers.
Unlike the quarter and halfway marks of the season, the three-quarter mark of the season is different. Mainly because
all 32 teams reach that mark of the season at the same time. Unlike the earlier mark where byes cause some teams to
reach it a week later than others.

So what has the first three quarters of the 2005 football season brought us? It's brought us a 12-0 team who wasn't
the first team to clinch their division. It's brought us a great MVP race that features 3 running backs who are all
going to get snubbed when the award goes to the leagues posterboy QB. It's brought us two teams who struggled mightily
in the first weeks of the season, and are now legitimate playoff threats. Although for one of those teams it took a
trip on the Love Boat. And as every year since Parity has taken hold it's brought us 13 weeks of football where
anything can happen.
A football game is 60 minutes long, and most of the time it's not decided until near the end. Sometimes it's decided in
the final three minutes, when your quarterback, lets use Philadelphia QB Donovan McNabb, and his WR are on a completely
different page. His WR runs a fly patter, while McNabb thinks he's doing a hitch and throws the ball into the waiting
arms of a defender, let's use Cowboys Safety Roy Williams, who then proceeds to run it in for a game winning TD.

Sometimes the outcome of a game is determined on the first drive of the second half. For example, let's pretend that
it's the AFC Divisional round playoff game. Let's say a team, we'll use the Colts, has usually had problems beating
another team, say the Patriots, who just happen to be the Defending Champions. After the first half it's a relatively
close game. The Colts get the ball first, drive to the Patriots side of the 50, and are 4th and 1. Then the Colts come
in punt the ball away, and the game is effecitively over at that point.

Then there are the games that are pretty much done after the very first drive. Like say for example the Rams against
division rival Seahawks. The Rams take the opening kickoff, and drive 61 yards to inside the Seahawks 15. But once
inside the Redzone they stumble and are forced to kick a fielgoal. A game when they needed to come out quick and put
points up, they fail to take advantage of an early drive. Settling for the figgie, tells Seattle that the Rams couldn't
score when they needed to.

Sure in all three of the above cases the losing team continued to fight, but the outcome was pretty much solidified in
each of the cases.

Alright Colts, that was impressive. No not the fact that they beat the Colts 40-21, oh by the way, 40 being the most
points the Colts had ever scored against the Patriots. No I'm not talking about finally getting that monkey off of
theirs, and Peyton's back. Which if the two teams meet back up in the playoffs, that Monkey will be right back in it's
comfy chair, planted squarely on Peyton's back. They'll have to win in the playoffs to really get rid of that
monkey.
This sucks. Can you believe that this upcoming week, will be the midpoint of the NFL Season. It just seems to fly by.
However, over the next few weeks the NFL will kick it up a notch. Starting next Monday, with the most [over]hyped game
of 2005.

Official Bobbleheads go crazy week.

This with is Sideshow's Official Bobbleheads Going Crazy Week. It is no coincidence that this week coincides with the
week leading up to the matchup between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. For anyone who doesn't know
the recent history between this team, first off welcome to the planet earth, and second just listen to any of the many
bobbleheads who will be going crazy trying [over]hype the importance of this matchup.

Now don't get me wrong, this is a big, and important matchup, but I bet at least one bobblehead this week makes a
comment that this game is bigger than the Superbowl.
