                It seems like nowadays whenever people meet invariably this question will come up: "So do you have a blog?" Everyone
has one. I used to think we here on the Homestarmy were special because we had this blog for more than 4 years. And I
suppose we still are as I have never seen anyone else doing what we do. But the fact remains everyone seems to have a
blog. Good for them. <br />
<br />
I like blogs. It gives me a chance to keep in touch with people (mainly because I am rather anti-social). Some people
are really funny. Others have really poignant and intelligent things to say. All of them keep me reading. I have
added a new folder to our Handy Links section (on the right column of the site) called Radar's Endorsed Blogs. This
contains links to all of the blogs that I read on a regular basis. Some you already read. Others will be new to you.
But I put them up on our blog to encourage all of you to check them out (and comment on their posts as I know they all
like that). I also encourage each of you to put up your own folders with readable blogs as I would be interested to
read them. Look for me to feature some of them in the coming weeks. <br />
<br />
Below is a list of all of my recommended blogs and a very brief intro about them: <br /><a href="http://www.thehomestarmy.com/s9y/index.php?/archives/1414-Blogs,-blogs,-blogs....html#extended">Continue reading "Blogs, blogs, blogs..."</a>

                From time to time some of my friends post something to their blog that I think is fantastic. I used to wonder how to
tell other people about it. I thought that I could just copy the post verbatim and then be done with it, but that just
doesn't seem right. So then I realized (I don't know why it took me this long) that I could just link to it. I think I
am going to come up with a better way to share some of my friends blogs. Look to the near future for an addition.

I picked up <a href="http://isbn.nu/9870756404741 " target="_blank">"The Name of the Wind"</a> on the recommendation of
<a href="http://www.thehomestarmy.com/s9y/index.php?/authors/8-Radar" target="_blank">Radar</a>- when I first opened the
book, I was gravely concerned - my experience has previously shown that the more glowing reviews a book got, the more
likely it is that the book <strong>would</strong> <strong>not</strong> have sold without those reviews, and this book
had no less than three full pages of raves. However, I went against my own judgement and have thus far been glad. If you
decide to pick it up, do me this favor - stick with the story long enough to see Chronicler deal with highway robbery.
If you still don't like it by that point, at least I won't be able to say you didn't give it a fair shake.

                So, Ancient of Days told me a while back I should try coLinux rather than struggling with a dual boot, VMWare, or KVM
solution to that age old problem: How do I run Linux and Windows on the same desk?<br />
<br />
I've struggled for a week now trying to get coLinux to do what I wanted. I didn't have a lot of time until today, when
I was assigned a new PHP project to work on. Seeing that I now had the needed justification for investing time into
this technology, I set about trying to read through the documentation.<br />
<br />
To my surprise, I found that several people were packaging "out of the box" solutions that installed a windows manager
and a bunch of commonly used applications - and they use Ubuntu Linux as their distro. I ended up going with <a
href="http://www.andlinux.org/" title="And Linux?">andLinux</a> since it was available from sourceforge. I installed it
and after a quick reboot, it started working like magic. <br /><a href="http://www.thehomestarmy.com/s9y/index.php?/archives/1408-coLinux-grows-up..html#extended">Continue reading "coLinux grows up."</a>

        <content type="xhtml" xml:base="http://www.thehomestarmy.com/s9y/">
            <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
                So I had a friend of mine recommend a book a to a month or so ago that I was excited to read. The first book she lent
me was what I consider <a
href="http://www.thehomestarmy.com/s9y/index.php?/archives/1246-Book-versus-Movie...-Movie-wins!.html" title="a sad
failure">a sad failure</a> since I had been so excited to read it and it ended up being a flop in my opinion. I don't
blame her for the book sucking so much at all. Her second recommendation, and book lendation also had great promise.
Sadly it didn't fare much better. The book was called <a
href="http://www.shelfari.com/books/45059/The-Diaries-of-Adam-and-Eve-(Literary-Classics)" title="the diaries of adam
and eve">The Diaries of Adam &amp; Eve</a> by Mark Twain.  <br />
<br />
Mark Twain is and should be considered a classic author and personality in every sense of those words. I, like many of
you, read Huck Finn in high school and really enjoyed it. It managed to keep me quite interested even as a freshman who
hated his English class. He even managed to make his way to a <a
href="http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/TNG/episode/68558.html" title="two part">two part</a> <a
href="http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/TNG/episode/68560.html" title="episode">episode</a> of Star Trek the
Next Generation that was fantastic. However, this book was not.<br />
<br />
I am sure that back in the day this was probably quite fresh and funny. To me it seemed like he wasn't really trying.
The humor was flat and contrived. Very predictable. I will be honest and say that I was expecting more than what I
got. I don't think my friend built it up too much, I just expected Twain to be better than he was. If any of you have
read this, then I would be happy to accept dissenting views. As for me, I just could not in good conscience continue
reading nor recommend it to anyone else. <br />
<br />
You have now been "Literized."

                Well, I recently spent a lot of time sleeping and dozing, but in between all that excitement I managed to squeeze in a
viewing of the Prequel of all Prequels. Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. It's been a little over nine years
since its theatrical release and the prequel experiment as a whole has been widely panned (especially by me.) I thought
I'd write up a few of my thoughts now that I'm a little older and have been exposed to the true spiritual sequel to Star
Wars (the Firefly/Serenity franchise.) <br /><a href="http://www.thehomestarmy.com/s9y/index.php?/archives/1401-The-Phantom-Menace-Revisited.html#extended">Continue reading "The Phantom Menace Revisited"</a>
