As MG has just reminded me, we're approaching the dumbest holiday ever created: April Fool's Day. Basically, it's not
worth your time to believe anything you might hear, see, or read for the next 3 days.
Dumb. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Don't you people have anything BETTER to do with your time? Sunday, March 30. 2008Book versus Movie... Movie wins!
So if you guys remember back a few weeks ago I requested some book ideas as I wanted to start a new book which sparked
the
best argument over a comment thread that this blog has ever seen. AoD made a joke using some material from the
Princess Bride. It sparked a recommendation that someone had once given me, so I decided to go with it.

The Giveaways at giveawayoftheday.com are frequently of dubious value, so I usually don't mention them to everyone -
especially since I don't often have the time between finding out about a particular item and the time the download ends
to do a proper review.
However, today's Game Giveaway, Silkwood had such an interesting premise that I thought I'd mention it here before actually reviewing it to see if it's any good. Roll the dice and let me know what you think of it. Saturday, March 29. 2008Comments (3) Trackbacks (0) Specifically for MG

My wife lost the better part of a day yesterday on a bit of a red herring that was, admittedly, my fault. So when I saw
this article about a
good way to manage your time when you're working on something that might classify as "off-task".
Tuesday, March 25. 2008Fun with xsel
I wish I had really thought of this while
we were all at INS together - can you imagine the fun we could have had playing with each other's clipboard buffers? In
particular, I'm thinking of an image of a certain kitten, and how I could have set a cronjob to put it in Radar's paste
buffer every minute...
Tuesday, March 25. 2008I'll up the ante on Odd.
The Lakers are a negative half game behind the Hornets.
![]() ![]() Math! Monday, March 24. 2008I'LL GIVE YOU ODD!
Drive SOUTH out of Detroit, Michigan, USA and you'll end up in Canada.
Seriously. SOUTH! Look! View Larger Map That gray line is the US/Canada border! DETROIT IS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF IT! O.O I nearly collapsed in a heap of my own wrongness (wrongity? wrongitude?) when shown this. Monday, March 24. 2008Heh - hyperentangled
Admittedly, you probably won't find this funny enough to justify the amount of time I spent crafting the image that
conveys only the joke portion of /. - but I wanted to preserve it for my OWN sense of humour:
Sunday, March 23. 2008Aggresive Pizza Tipping
I have been a casual listener of the Nightside Project
on KSL radio for about a year or so. Originally it used to be hosted by some high priced radio personality from LA
(though he was originally raised here in Utah). Now it is hosted by Ethan Millard and Alex Kirry. I had been listening
to the radio program for a while when I went to an engagement party for my friends Melanie and Skyler. At that party I was talking to
Melanie's brother Alex and commented that he shared the exact name of a favorite radio host of mine. He paused and
looked at me with an odd expression and said, "yeah, that's me."
I was a little surprised and ashamed (mainly because I used to call him Zach when he lived with Melanie - yeah my memory of names just stinks). But he was affable enough to put me at ease. Anyway, during their radio show, they have a segment called "Who asked you?" During that segment anyone can call up and get 15 seconds of free air time to say whatever they want. If it is interesting/funny/intelligent/thought-provoking then you get another 15 seconds. If not then you get cut off after your 15 seconds. Sometimes it is insightful, other times it is ridiculous, most of the time it is entertaining. This last friday night as I was driving from the racquetball court to Ming's Garden for dinner I got to hear that segment. One of the callers chose to spend his time rebuking poor pizza delivery tipping. After his time was finished the hosts of the show pointed out that the Nightside Project advocated the aggressive tipping of pizza delivery men. Give it a listen as I found it quite funny. Unfortunately you will have to listen to half of the segment before you get to it, but I think it is worth the time and the entire segment is only 8 min or so. And if you enjoy that, then I highly suggest listening to the radio show on a regular basis (KSL 1160AM and 102.7FM). Looking at a ranking of the top "OpenCourseWare" given
here, I was surprised to see 2 Utah schools made the list. Not too shabby!

Years ago, I came across the Gapminder data visualization
tool known as "Trendalyzer", and wanted to get my hands on it - it was the most innovative data visualization tool I'd
seen come out in my entire span of years. After Google acquired them, I figured I'd never hear of it again - it'd
disappear into that corporate monolith like so much cream cheese in a cracker factory. Well, I'm glad to say, I was
wrong. It seems you can start creating your own "trendalizations" now, using Google Spreadsheets. More info here and here.

I don't know about you guys, but this seems like a poorly
conceived idea to me...I dunno. Maybe I'm just not adventuresome enough. I definitely think Radar should buy it so that
he can move far away to Australia! XD
Sunday, March 16. 2008Comments (10) Trackbacks (0) So there's this new band...
So I was driving home Friday from having played AoD and Captain Jack racquetball when I noticed a sign on the freeway
announcing a 3-d music show featuring some new band I had never heard
of at the Hansen Planetarium. But it looked interesting and the colors were very vivid, so it peaked my interest.
It looks like music some of you might be interested in. So here is a link to take a look at it. If any of you are interested, I would love to go to this with you. Here is a link to see what it is all about. Let me know your enthusiasm for making this a group activity.
