Years ago, I came across the Gapminder data visualization
tool known as "Trendalyzer", and wanted to get my hands on it - it was the most innovative data visualization tool I'd
seen come out in my entire span of years. After Google acquired them, I figured I'd never hear of it again - it'd
disappear into that corporate monolith like so much cream cheese in a cracker factory. Well, I'm glad to say, I was
wrong. It seems you can start creating your own "trendalizations" now, using Google Spreadsheets. More info here and here.

I've seen gapminder before. I love numbers and charts, but for the life of me I can't figure out what I would use this
for. Finance stuff? My age vs my weight? # of girls i've kissed?

Any time you're doing temporal analysis, this could come in really handy. Some examples of where I want to use it:
1) Showing customer purchase trends over time (x-axis: Item Quantity; y-axis: Dollars; "circle size" axis: customer size) 2) Showing programmer productivity (x-axis: # bugs closed; y-axis: (estimated days - actual days); "circle size": number of svn commits) Even if you don't use it as a "temporal axis", it can be used as simply an additional axis - giving you at least 4 axes without having to go into 3D charts (which are usually incredibly hard to read) Comment (1)
